Questions About Fanfiction & Fan Art

Question

Answer

If I wish to use some of the beautiful art from some of these very talented artists and they leave no way that I saw to contact them....may I use the picture? Or is there a way to ask permission in a way that is more reliable than leaving the question in

You shouldn't really use the pictures on this site for anything but personal online viewing without the permission of the artist; though the pictures are fanart of copyrighted material, the artist still has copyright and all rights therein. Most fan artists will be happy for you to use their work, providing you have their permission. I can't give you permission to use an artist's picture because the pictures found at this site have been provided by the contributing artists who kindly gave us permission to show them. LavenderEyes itself is never the copyright holder; it only benefits from a non-transferable "permission to publish".

Do I email pics to be submitted or is there a place to upload them? I'm lost.

Go to the Submissions Gallery, and, if you're a member who's logged-in to the this site, there will be a link at the top which says: "Add Photos". Click on this link, then upload your pictures (instructions will be provided). Please include your name with your photos so we can create a gallery to put your art in.

Can I edit my image gallery? and how can i do it?

If you're logged in, and go into your gallery, you should see links up near the upper right that say things like "Properites", "Add Picture" and so on. Beneath each picture, you should be seeing a drop down menu that allows you to delete or edit your picture info. If you're not seeing this, then contact one of the site staff, and they will fix it for you.

I wish to submit my art work for the gallery, but want to leave out my name. May I do so?

Simply submit your art under whatever name you would like your gallery to be listed under. If this name is different from your member name on Lavender Eyes, please include your member name so that we can set permissions for you to add, edit, or delete art from your gallery. However, a name must be included with your art work. It will be held in the submissions for seven days. If no artist's name is added, it will be deleted.

How do I know if my contributed FanFics are accepted? do i just need to keep an eye on the FanFic board?

Check the fanfic archive. Your story is usually validated within a few hours by a Moderator. If it has not been validated, a Moderator will notify you by private message with the reason(s).

I've uploaded a fanfic, and would like to add more chapters to it. How do I do this without creating a whole new story?

Find your story in the archive, click onto the title. On the left, you will see "Add Chapter." Click on that and follow the guides.

How does one submit a picture for the colouring book album?

You simply submit it to the Submissions Gallery like normal -- just be sure to label it "coloring book" so it can be placed in the correct folder.

Where can I find the answers to my questions when I click on one of the FAQ's I get redirected to the main homepage I want to see the comments about my art

If there is an asterisk by the title of your art then there are comments posted on it. To get those comments all you have to do is click on the image thumbnail. That will give you the full-size view as well as any comments you might have.

Can you tell me please why did you change the gallery of images? It is something usual?

Changes in the Images Gallery have been ongoing and probably will continue as the site continues to grow. To detail some of the changes to date: Fanart was broken down into Member Art (art submitted by site members) and Guest Art (art by non-members that we have received permission to display here). This change was to make it easier to keep up with more frequently updated galleries. The galleries were then alphabetized to make them easier to navigate as well as easier for staff to place submitted artwork in the appropriate folder. We also recently added a Coloring Book -- which was originally an artist's project that proved popular and gained support from other artists. We also added a Book and Games Art gallery. This image gallery contains cover art from various FR books (especially RAS ones) and campaign settings as well as screen shots from FR computer games, maps of Faerun, and a folder of Todd Lockwood's FR book art that we received special permission to display. Logged in members can also access our (recently added) Member Pictures Gallery. If you have a specific suggestion or complaint, please feel free to speak up in Site Suggestions and Announcements.

Is there any way to change the 'cover picture' for your art gallery? My first submitted picture doesn't show up very well and I was hoping to change it to a newer one. Is there any way that I just don't know about, or could you make one somehow?

Under each picture in your album is a drop down menu. Go to the picture you would like to have as your album highlight and choose Highlight Photo from that drop down menu. It will ask to confirm your selection, say "yes" and that pic will be your new album highlight. You can change the highlight pic at any time -- very useful if you wish to "spotlight" new additions to your album.

This is probably a dumb question, but how do you actually make a story? Do u email it? Is there a link? Can you tell me exactly what to do?

Click Fanfiction in the left hand column, then click Add Story and follow the guides. Cut, copy and paste your story in the Text area. Be sure to post a disclaimer, and read the fanfiction rules in the Fanfiction discussion forum.

Though I am a big fan of Drizzt and I would love to write about him, could I post fanfiction that doesn't include Drizzt or evan take place in the realms? It's still fantasy.

Our site is devoted to Drizzt Do'Urden. Your story must contain characters from the dark elf novels of R.A. Salvatore, or from the War of the Spider Queen novels, which were based on his idea. Fanfiction rules are posted in the fanfiction discussion area of the forums.

I was interested in the traveling drow pictures gallery, but can't seem to find it. As far as I can tell, it was in member pictures, a section that doesn't exist anymore, as far as I can tell. If there's a way to get to it, could you please let me know?

You must be be a registered member of LE and logged in to the site to view the Members Pics folder.

how can I tell if my submission has been uploaded? How do I know if I did everything I was supposed to?

In the left column click "Images", then click "Submissions". Your art should appear there. Please include your name in the title of the work so that we know who the work belongs to. EXAMPLE: Rivka_picture1.jpg . All artwork submitted without a name will be deleted after one week

How do I make my own gallery?

Simply submit your art or photo to the Submissions Gallery of the Images Gallery and if it meets the Submissions Guidelines a gallery will be made for you.

What are the rules for submitting fanfiction or fan art?

You must be a member of the site to submit fanfiction or fan art. Submitting a Fanfiction Story Lavender Eyes accepts any stories that include Drizzt or any of the other characters found in the Dark Elf, Icewind Dale, and Legacy of the Drow collections (and any other future related books), and that meet the submission rules. We will also accept any poems, filks, or anything else related to these characters. You must include a disclaimer at the top of the story. A standard example: "The recognisable characters appearing in this story are © Wizards of the Coast, Inc., all rights reserved. They are used without permission and for entertainment purposes only. No profit is being made by the author for writing this story. No infringement upon nor challenge to the rights of the copyright holders is intended; nor should any be inferred." Please check the story for spelling and grammar errors. We don't have time to clean up your story! If we see more than a couple of errors, it will be rejected. We accept stories of any rating, including adult and slash (which will be archived in a separate section of the site). Please be sure to indicate that clearly in any warnings at the beginning of your story. You may submit stories through the Fanfiction link on the left (under Choose Your Path). Submitting a Fan Art Image 1) Please do not submit fan art as your own if you did not actually create it. 2) Please only submit .jpg images. If you submit a .gif or a .bmp, they will be deleted. 3) No pictures that contain only original characters, please. This is a Drizzt and friends fan site, and as such, has no place for images or stories about original characters/Mary Sues. 4) Please be sure to include your name in the filename of any images that you submit, so that we can put the image in the appropriate gallery. Example: Rivka_picture1.jpg Any images in the submissions gallery that have no name associated with them will be deleted. If you'd like to submit an image, add it to the submissions gallery, and if it is deemed suitable for our site, we will create a gallery for you to add, delete, and edit your own images.

How do I know if anyone has subbmited a review? I mean does it appear in my Inbox or what?

To the right of the story in the fanfiction archive, click "Reviews".

It is a genre in LE fanfiction that is chosen by the writer to indicate heavy emotions and/or anxieties in the story.

in the fan fic where it says Dove do they mean Alustriels ranger sister?

Yes, it means Dove Falconhand, one of the Seven Sisters.

Can someone please tell me what a story text is?

Story text means the words to the story. Another example would be "Send me the text message". The words of the message, or the words to the story.

Hi there. I'm interested in submitting a story in the Adult/Slash section of Fanfiction and, as it's rated 18, I'm wondering how graphic enteries are allowed to be? Do you condone the use of swearing? I've read a couple of the stories, but none them have included cursing. Thanks.

Lavender Eyes uses the ratings of G, PG, PG-13 and NC-17 as a guide for readers to make a choice as to what they wish to read. These are listed in the submissions area for fanfiction in a drop down for writers to choose. The ratings are not just for guidance, but serve as warnings for those sensitive to violence, sexual situations and adult language. Lavender Eyes has a pop up with a warning for those under the age of eighteen when the story is rated NC-17. Adult language can occur in the ratings PG-13, R, NC-17, and is the writers' choice. There is a Summary area in the submissions. Many writers post a warning there to readers when the story is adult in nature.
